Animal Crossing for this series invites gamers to adventure in the new city, and incurred debts that have to work to pay it off. Each new series introduced the item. The characters and new features, though with a similar base formula.

As of February 9th 2011, in an interview with 3DS Buzz and Head of Marketing for Nintendo UK, James Honeywell, it is hinted that Animal Crossing 3DS may still be in development, with no hint as to the release date. This contrasts with the news of developments of other 3DS games.
