The 3rd Birthday is a third-person tactical shooter and tactical-action RPG developed by Square Enix on late 2010. This game is the third entry of the Parasite Eve series, which the entry is present for more than a decade after the previous entry: Parasite Eve II is present in the Playstation in 1999.

At Christmas Eve 2010. New York City get ready for Christmas with peace when suddenly bermunculanlah various mysterious monsters called Twisted. Not till a few years’ world army is in urgency to face these monsters until they are nearly extinct. Man's last hope lies in an organization called the Counter Twisted Investigations; abbreviation of CTI and one member: Aya Brea. Aya has a capability called Overdive, an ability to return to the past and taken possession of a person. With the support of CTI, Aya back to the past to end the threat as well as finding out memory Twisted missing since the early occurrence of Twisted.

The biggest weakness in The 3rd Birthday is located on the plot that made no sense at all. You guys that played the first two games going Parasite Eve Aya Brea frustrating to see that tough here turned into a weak girl. There are explanations at the end of the game but it all came too late and frankly his twist feels forced.

The 3rd Birthday was more shooter than RPG genre. When I play it feels like to play Mass Effect 2. But is this way successfully implemented by a PSP game that has limited control?

The answer to that is Auto-targeting of weapons. Aya can use up to four weapons and most of the weapons that she used could be automatically target the nearest enemy. Aya could change the direction of his aim with the right - left D-Pad PSP. The majority of time the system still works although sometimes when there are many enemies on-screen controls of this kind can be rather inconvenient. Just so you know this game can sometimes throw five six enemies at once to your face.

The element of gameplay that's most heralded by The 3rd Birthday is Overdive system. With this system you can get taken possession of the soldiers who fight with you against the Twisted. Overdive makes the battle more dynamic but also makes this game seem less challenging. Often times you will attack blindly facing an enemy and when you almost killed you live and move to the new body will return your HP is full. Yet in most cases the army could supply almost limitless. If so many are dead you are just waiting until there is another respawn soldier appear again.

Fortunately this game is just so not too easy to Square Enix has created many types of Twisted need you are facing. Each Twisted has different abilities and needs to be faced with different strategies, too. There was an attack Twisted melee and there are attacked by projectile attacks and some are not be harmed, so you have to run helter-skelter of attacks!
